Likuliku in the local dialect means "sheltered or calm lagoons" and from the water it looks like an ancient village, so traditional is the architecture. The site of Likuliku is steeped in history dating back many hundreds of years. It was where the first landing of the paramount chief of the Mamanuca Islands occurred and where he established the first village on Malolo Island. The Village moved many, many years ago, and you can visit it and the current paramount chief who resides there today. Now on the site of the old village, a beautiful tribute has been created with Likuliku Lagoon Resort.

Likuliku is 100% Fijian owned by a family tourism company with over 30 years of operations in Fiji. Because of this tie to the culture and community, Likuliku has been built with care and respect for the local values and environment whilst creating a haven of relaxed refinement for guests. Likuliku’s owners also wanted to add to the uniqueness of the resort by providing a key element that Fiji did not currently possess – over-water accommodation. The results are ten beautifully constructed over-water bures set on the edge of the Lagoon’s fringing reef which teems with abundant marine life and corals.

The remaining thirty-five bures all line the beachfront amongst the tropical gardens and against a backdrop of natural rainforest and coconut groves. Every bure on the resort has been built with local and traditional materials and methods including Fijian hardwood and hand-woven banana leaf ceiling and wall thatching.
