Hawaii: Kaua'i - Poipu BayKaua'i provides the perfect opportunity to experience an exhilarating variety of land and water-based adventures ... and the good news is visitors don't have to be regular exercise fanatics to enjoy what the island has to offer.

Hikes range from easy- to strenuous-grade treks through dramatic state forest  landscapes. Camp sites offer experiences right by the sea and secluded mountain hideaways. Guided horse rides meander along beaches and sleepy inland tracks. And cycling can be as easy or challenging as necessary, with relatively flat terrain through to canyon descents and rough dirt roads.

The list goes on to include diving, boat cruising, fishing, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding, water skiing, scenic sky trekking by helicopter and more.

Kau'i is the island of the great outdoors. It's just a matter of how travellrs wish to discover its unspoiled landscape. By land, sea or air - there are a multitude of choices.

Things to Do

  • Take a helicopter ride of Waimea Canyon and see why Mark Twain nicknames it "The Grand Canyon of the South Pacific". The canyon can also be explored by foot or car. The best time for viewing is after it's been raining as the earth takes on a deep red tinge and the waterfalls are fully cascading.
  • A sailing trip along the breathtaking Napali Coast is a must. Keep an eye out for the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal, which calls the waters around Kaua'i home. These towering green sea cliffs can also be viewed from a helicopter.
  • Over 60 movies and TV-series have been filmed on Kaua'i. Visit a number of these Hollywood movies sets on a movie tour around the island. South Pacific, Jurassic Park  and Raiders of the Lost Ark are just a few of the films shot on Kaua'i.
  • Relive the Kaua'i plantation days at picturesque Koloa Town. Located in the heart of the South Shore resort area, this town was once the site of Hawai'i's first successful sugar plantation. Evidence of the colorful plantation days live on in its restored buildings, history centre and churches.
  • Suitably nicknamed the Garden Isle, Kaua'i is green, tropical and wild with rainforest-covered cliffs, cascading waterfalls and lush vegetation. Visit one of the islands many beautiful botanical gardens to learn more about the island's flora.
