Chalet Eiger, which opened on 1 November 2005, is located in picturesque Acacia Bay on the shores of Lake Taupo. Owned and operated by Hea-Min Horvath-Song and Emil Horvath-Gerber, they bring the influences of their extensive travels and cosmopolitan background to the property.

Speaking nine languages between them, they have lived in New Zealand for eleven years.

The property, which was designed by a Swiss architect, offers four, luxuriously decorated, ensuite bedrooms each of which has a super-king 'Huesler' bed rated as the best in the world by the Swiss Institute of Technology. Each bedroom also has their own deck from which guests can enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain views. No expense has been spared with light, temperature and music automated via a touch screen.

Emil and Hea-Min are both wine connoisseurs so the wines chosen to accompany dinner are selected from a wine cellar stocked with some of the finest Old and New World wines Their international backgrounds are reflected in the delicious breakfast and dinner menus which are prepared by the in-house chef. Conversant with French, Italian, Swiss, Korean, Japanese and Pacific cuisine, the chef utilises local and home grown organice produce. Artisan (European) breads baked in a wood-fired masonry oven are a speciality.

Additional facilities include a sauna and a 'state of the art' digital Home-Theatre system complete with big screen.

Experiences

Get in touch with nature and enjoy local walks along the shores of Lake Taupo. The area is renowned for its geothermal activity so hot pools and spas abound. Excellent fishing can be had in Rangikikei River where trophy-sized rainbow trout and brown trout are to be found.
