To ensure maximum enjoyment of the magical views from the drawing room, dining room and library across the lake, these rooms have been positioned on the first floor, and open onto a broad shaded verandah, a magnet at any time but especially enjoyable for breakfasts and pre-dinner drinks. Guests can choose to dine at the antique lodge table or at one of the many other private areas in the lodge which include the elegant conservatory and lakeside gardens. An extensive list of premium New Zealand wines is on offer to complement meals.

Punctuated with old and new varieties of roses the gardens include a popular swimming pool with sunny terraces. A few steps on is a fascinating example of period garden design: great stepped terraces with wisteria draped arches lead up to a grotto, a favourite spot for drinks and weddings. Fishing trips leave from the Lodge's jetty and for the ultimate cultural experience, your hosts can organise a private Maori concert performance on the lawns.

Air Safari: Guests are collected by float plane from Kawaha's private jetty and taken to explore the wild ‘Lord of the Rings' scenery and famed volcanoes including the active ‘White Island'.
Fish: A fishing experience with renowned local fisherman Blair or Murray Watson. Guests are collected from the private jetty and taken to the best spots on the lake to fish for the famed rainbow trout. You catch it we cook it!
