Espiritu Santo
The largest of Vanuatu's 83 islands, this mystical and special place inspired author James A. Michener's legendary "Tales of the South Pacific".
Little has changed since the days when French planters established huge coconut (copra) plantations and the island was a major allied base during World War 11.
Here you will find powdery white sand beaches including Champagne Beach, regarded as one of the world's best beaches; crystal clear blue waters with stunning jewel-like islands just a few hundred metres from coconut fringed beaches; majestic mountains stretching from one end of the island to the other; awesome ravines shrouded in magnificent tropical rainforest and home to jungle birds and beautiful orchids; and ancient Melanesian villages. Santo is renowned among divers for the remarkable clarity of its waters, its stunning coral reefs and its amazing marine life. This is the place to dive the world's most accessible ship wreck "USS President Coolidge" and "Million Dollar Point", a man-made reef of World War II surplus machinery including jeeps and tanks.
