Tanna

The ancient island of Tanna is renowned for Mt Yasur, the world's most accessible active volcano. Spectacular eruptions of glowing ash and stones hurled into the night air provide a tour you will never forget. But this is also the place for wild horses, custom villages and cargo cults. Black rock, sand and jagged reefs are the remains of lava flows thousands of years ago.

Yasur Volcano and Tanna Highlands Safari from $112 per person - Beyond the Middle Bush area, past the wild horses on the White Grass plains, coffee plantations, many highland villages and 552 metre Mt Loanialu lies Mt Yasur and a 15 minute walk to the crater's edge (dependent on volcano activity at the time) where you can ponder the awesome power of nature.

Custom Village from $69 per person - This safari will take you into the forest where you will find a unique kastom village. Experience a way of life that has not changed in centuries. Locally made authentic handicrafts available to purchase.

Lamkail Rainforest Tour from $69 per person - Meet the villagers, visit their lovely beach and explore an ancient rainforest including a majestic Banyan Tree, Coconut crab habitat and view trees filled with flying foxes. Your guide will highlight the importance of the rainforest and show you traditional hunting traps and fishing outriggers. There is plenty of time on this tour to wander the beach, have a swim, buy some local handicrafts or mingle with the Lamkail people.

Surf Beach and Waterfall Safari from $90 per person - A thrilling 4WD adventure to the spectacular black sand surf beach on the wild east coast of Tanna. Visit the magnificent Louniel waterfall, deep in the forest. Witness traditional dancing on the high plateau. Enjoy a picnic on the black sand surf beach before a swim, surf or optional horse ride along the 5 kilometre shoreline. Bathe in the fresh water springs, collect some handicrafts from the villages before returning to your resort.

John Frum Village Tour from $29 per person - Visit the colourful and rhythmic Sabbath ceremony of the John Frum villagers. These Tannese people were encouraged by the WWII soldiers John Frum to turn to Christianity and the promise of a ‘better' life with the addition of Western goods such as cars and coco-cola. John returned to America and his followers are still awaiting his homecoming and the bounty he will bring.
